Aaron Mills, PhD, Professor, Department of Environmental Science, University of Virginia
Aaron is Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia and founder of the Laboratory of Microbial Ecology. He has served as Associate Chair of the Department and Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences for Graduate Programs. Additionally he spent several years as Senior Scientist and Chief Scientist with the Advanced Life Support team at Kennedy Space Center where he led research on biological wastewater treatment. Aaron has authored more than 120 peer reviewed publications and book chapters and has been editor for two major books.
David Austin, MS, PE, Principal Technologist for Natural Treatment Systems, CH2M Hill
David is an environmental Professional Engineer and a Certified Senior Ecologist. He works for CH2M Hill on variety of ecological engineering projects for lake restoration, mine reclamation, estuary water quality improvement, and constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment. David has been involved in the development of Living Machine technology for over decade and is principal author on 12 US patents from this work.
Julie Bargmann, Associate Professor, School of Architecture, University of Virginia, Principal D.I.R.T. Studio
Julie is internationally recognized as an innovative designer in building regenerative and sustainable landscapes. Her on-going design research Project D.I.R.T. continues to reform and re-imagine degraded landscapes. Bargmann’s work was awarded the 2001 National Design Award by Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Museum. TIME magazine and CNN, along with national and international design publications have recognized Bargmann as leading the next generation in making a difference for design and the environment.
David Maciolek, MS, PE, President of Aqua Nova Engineering
David is an engineering project partner and has over 16 years of experience in water, wastewater and environmental engineering. He has been involved in the design and engineering of over 15 Living Machine Systems. He has P.E. Certification in California, Washington, New Mexico, Oregon, Nevada and Texas, Florida and West Virginia as well as NCEES National Registration.
Anish Jantrania, PhD, PE, MBA, Senior Project Manager, NCS Wastewater Solutions
Anish is a Senior Project Manager at NCS Wastewater Solutions a division of Northwest Cascade Inc. Anish has over 20 years experience engineering onsite wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal systems. He has a PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Clemson University and has previously worked as Technical Services Engineer at Virginia Department of Health and as Technical Program Coordinator at The National Small Flows Clearinghouse.
